Studio introduction:

The studio transcends cultural boundaries by engaging students with instances of Intangible Cultural Heritage that influences our perception of the past, present and future as an idea conceived and experienced through architecture. Students explore Hong Kong's Intangible Cultural Heritage by designing a room in the city based on an example of Intangible Cultural Heritage they have studied. In doing so, they develop the idea of a multidimensional environment that incorporates the element of time through various methods of mapping and translation, with the aim being to condense space, time, and information based on the knowledge they have acquired. The Intangible Cultural Heritage is spatially visualised through the temporality of the activities and events. The design of a room, which also speculates on the afterlife of its activity and its functional timeline, is developed and presented as a sequence of two and three-dimensional fragments that are embedded in the urban landscape.
