SAN TIN SOCIAL GROUNDINGS

Advisor:

Guillaume Othenin-Girard

Student(s):

FEI Fraze

Studio introduction:

Making use of survey drawing and modelling to uncover the hidden layers of the San Tin Territory–from past, present and future, students will synthesise archival and material research and propose a design response that establishes new social infrastructure to support the New Northern Metropolis, emphasising the heritage value of San Tin’s ecologies and dwelling practices while addressing future urban needs and contingencies. Social infrastructure will be defined through architectural intervention(s) that actively create meaningful connections, trust, and a sense of community for current and future inhabitants through well-considered spatial, programmatic, and network strategies. Interventions will integrate new buildings and urban development with existing ground conditions, using context-sensitive design and contemporary heritage strategies. The studio dsemonstrate how site transformations can benefit and include all inhabitants (human and non-human), balancing new urban foundations with the preservation and renewal of cultural and ecological heritage.
