Studio introduction:

This studio deeply immerses itself in the nuanced dynamics of civic spaces, centering its inquiry on the fundamental role of human movements as the quintessential embodiment of public space. Through a meticulous examination of existing models and a fresh perspective on the design of the Hong Kong Municipal Service Building, the studio embarks on a mission to challenge established norms in circulation and spatial arrangements. It endeavors to harness the dynamic potential of circulation as a transformative force, influencing the distribution of programs, while employing human movements as a catalyst for reimagining portal transitions—exploring variations in thickness, length, thinness, or solidity. In turn, also sparking the investigation into how the envelope of the building, through designed ‘portal transitions’, negotiates with the environment of the site.
