BAAS Year 4 - Fall 2024
PALIMPSEST: CONSTRUCTION AS ATLAS TO NAVIGATE THE LAYERS OF A PLACE
Advisor:
David Magennis
Student(s):
Ho, Ka Wing Chloe
Studio introduction:
The brief analyses the eclectic fabric of the historic district of Sao Lourenco, Macau, where students create a range of site specific installations and transport them via ferry and bus to test them in the reality of their site. The installations aid the students in further understanding specificities of place, through direct engagement with existing buildings, spaces and users. These objects seek to critique the vernacular, change a perception or confirm an observation.
With the outcomes of the installations, the students develop their designs into a series of adaptive reuse projects, creating housing or mixed use buildings for those groups of society who usually sit outside; including elderly and migrant workers.
